Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Dylan Ferrandis once again showed his never quit mentality and overcame adversity to finish sixth overall with a 3-6 moto score at the Yamaha Budds Creek National. Riders were met with challenging conditions at the penultimate round of the 2023 Pro Motocross Championship, with fill-in rider Jay Wilson finishing 16th overall (14-16) despite a crash in each moto

Heading into the weekend not feeling 100%, Ferrandis had a solid qualifying effort in fifth and was eighth after the first lap of Moto 1. The Frenchman kept fighting and made a charge to the front after the halfway mark. He advanced to third on the penultimate lap and made a run at second but unfortunately ran out of time. His 15th moto podium of the season gave him the third gate pick for Moto 2, but unfortunately, he had a first-turn crash that put him at the back of the field with some time to make up. Undeterred, the Frenchman put his head down and made his way back to ninth with three laps to go. He kept pushing, but there was not enough time to close the gap, and he crossed the line ninth to end the day sixth overall. Ferrandis continues to maintain the runner-up spot in the 450MX points standings and sits sixth in the SMX points standings, trailing the top-five spot by 16 points.

At his second Pro Motocross round, Wilson continued to make progress in the tricky conditions at the Budds Creek MX Park. After qualifying 20th, the Australian executed a great start from a less-than-ideal gate position into second. In ninth behind his teammate on the first lap, Wilson kept pushing and made his way to eighth. Unfortunately, he had a crash on Lap 5 and rejoined in 13th, ultimately finishing 14th. In the second moto, he got another great start inside the top 10 and was once again ninth after the first lap. He tried to maintain the position but had another crash in the challenging conditions and finished 16th for 16th overall.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team heads to the Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana, next weekend for the final round of the 2023 Pro Motocross Championship and the 28th round of the SuperMotocross World Championship on August 26.

Jeremy Coker – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team Manager

“Today, our guys showed a lot of resilience and determination. Dylan put in a phenomenal ride in the first race, narrowly missing second place. Jay got a great start and then had a minor setback but fought hard till the end. In the second moto, Dylan had a first-turn crash, but once again showed that he was a fighter, coming back from 40th to ninth on a challenging track. It wasn’t the day we were hoping for, but the team rallied on a tough day. We’ll go back to work this week and have our sights set firmly on the top podium spot for next week.”

“Unfortunately, I got sick this week and today I felt really bad. The first few laps of the first moto were terrible, but lap after lap, I gained a little more adrenaline and felt better. Then I just tried to give everything I had and tried to get second but ended up third. Then in the second moto, I had a crash at the start of the race, which made for a difficult race, but again, I gave everything I had to make my way through the pack. We got to ninth, and I kept pushing, but there was too much of a gap. It’s a bummer, but for how bad I felt, we still got some good points. We will go back to Florida and rest up and try for a better result at Ironman.”

Jay Wilson – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing

“Today started off a little bit slow. I think the recovery time has been a little bit of a challenge since coming to America. Since we’ve arrived, I haven’t really stopped. Hopefully, we can improve on that heading into Ironman and get some decent results. The results so far haven’t been ideal, but there have been some positives with the testing side of things and then some positives with my riding. We’ve had some great starts and have been making progress with the short amount of time that we’ve had here. We’ve just got to put it all together heading into Ironman.”
