Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Daxton Bennick overcame adversity to score a seventh-place finish at last night’s Round 4 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX East Championship in Birmingham, Alabama. His teammate Haiden Deegan joined him in the top 10 with a ninth-place result after an off-track penalty was assessed. Nick Romano showed speed at the new venue for the series but unfortunately did not transfer to the main after a crash in the heat race and LCQ.

The day before the inaugural Birmingham Supercross, rain drenched Protective Stadium making for muddy conditions on race day. Bennick had a solid qualifying in sixth and finished third in his heat race. He got a good start in the main event but was pushed wide and then later went off track when a rider went down on that opening lap. The rookie kept pushing and made his way back from 14th to seventh.

Despite not feeling 100% with a tailbone injury from his crash at Daytona, Deegan qualified 10th. He got a great start into the lead of his heat race but unfortunately was involved in a first-turn incident. The Californian lost a lot of time as the two bikes were stuck together and had to go through the LCQ, where he finished second. He had a decent start in the main event, and then also got caught up in the opening lap incident and went off track. The Californian fought his way back to seventh but ultimately was credited with ninth after being docked two positions for gaining an advantage while off track on that first lap. Deegan continues to sit tied for fourth in the 250SX East points standings and is 12 points from the leader.

On his 19th birthday, Romano had a solid qualifying result in eighth and then got a great start in the heat race in second. Unfortunately, he crashed around the halfway mark and rejoined in sixth, but ultimately finished 12th. In the LCQ, the rookie went down again, ending his night early.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 250 team heads north to Lucas Oil Stadium for Round 5 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX East Championship and Round 10 of the SuperMotocross World Series at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, on March 16.

Jensen Hendler – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 250 Team Manager

“It was a tough night in Birmingham. We’re going to put this one behind us, get back to work, and come back stronger at Indy.”

Daxton Bennick – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #59

“It was a fun weekend in Alabama. The track guys did a good job considering all the rain we had, and the track was good in the main. I had the speed all day, I just didn’t put myself in a good spot. Coming from behind isn’t easy, but we were seventh on the night. I’m still learning and we are going to keep putting in the work and keep building.”

Haiden Deegan – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #38

“Birmingham didn’t go as planned. I will always ride with heart. I’m sorry the emotions got the best of me tonight. We’ll get back to work and come out swinging in Indy.”

Nick Romano – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #511

“The day started off well for me. We had a good qualifying but then some bad luck in the heat race that sent me to the LCQ. Then I got cross jumped in the LCQ, and that was it for me. Big shoutout to Dirt Wurx for making a great race track after all the rain.”
