Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team photo

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing heads into the highly anticipated 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season ready for battle with three returning champions and the potent YZ450F. Two-time 450SX Champion and four-time Pro Motocross 450MX Champion Eli Tomac is joined by two-time 450SX Champion Cooper Webb and 2021 250SX West Champion Justin Cooper. The team is also excited to welcome Progressive Insurance to its industry-leading partners that support the team’s championship-winning pursuits in the SuperMotocross League.

Founded in 1999 by entrepreneur Bobby Reagan, Star Racing built a reputation as one of the top privateer teams in supercross and motocross. In 2005, that reputation ultimately secured the support of Factory Yamaha.

As a long-time partner in the 250 support class and amateur ranks, the team has enjoyed a history of success with multiple titles. In 2020, Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (YMUS), announced a three-year partnership with the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team to field their campaign in both the 450 and 250 classes of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross Championships.

2021 marked a stellar debut season in the premier class. After a solid start to the year in supercross, with all three riders earning their first 450SX podium and ending the year fourth, fifth, and sixth in the standings, they really hit the ground running in the outdoor season. Dylan Ferrandis claimed the title a weekend early with six overall wins and never finished off the podium. The accolades continued as Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. earned Manufacturer of the Year honors, and the Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing Team was named Team of the Year.

In 2022, the team enjoyed another year at the top. Eli Tomac joined the team and was quite at home with the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing squad and the YZ450F. The multi-time champion went on to have a monumental year, securing both 450 supercross and motocross championships, taking seven supercross victories and 14 moto wins. He also earned his first ESPY Award in the Best Athlete, Men’s Action Sports Category, was captain of the victorious Team USA at the Motocross of Nations, and won more supercross races overseas during the off-season.

Last season Tomac found success straight away aboard the all-new YZ450F, taking victory at the opening Monster Energy AMA Supercross round in Anaheim, California. The Coloradan carried on winning, topping his own record at Daytona Supercross and advancing to second on the all-time win list with his 53rd-career 450SX victory in Glendale, Arizona. He and the team were on course for another title, holding a commanding lead in the 450SX Championship. Unfortunately, Tomac incurred a season-ending injury while leading the main event at the penultimate round in Denver, Colorado.

The team has its sights set on reclaiming the crown in 2024. A reinvigorated Tomac is back and looks to make another title run. Cooper Webb begins a new chapter with the team where he enjoyed a lot of success in the 250 ranks and is looking to add some more titles to his resume. The North Carolina rider kicked off his re with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing at the first playoff round of the 2023 SuperMotocross World Championship and finished the three-round series with a podium finish at the final round. Justin Cooper also got some seat time aboard the YZ450F in 2023 at select rounds of supercross and is eager to make his full-time debut in the premier class.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 team would like to thank Monster Energy, Yamaha Racing, Yamalube, Yamaha Financial Services (YMFUS), Progressive Insurance, bLU cRU, Rekluse, FMF, KYB, Dunlop, GYTR, D.I.D., AFAM, Kite, VP Fuels, CWI, Twin Air, ProTaper, Optima Batteries, Parts Unlimited, Motion Pro, Vortex Ignitions, D’Cor, Matrix Concepts, and Mechanics Wear.

Eli Tomac #3

Eli Tomac will return for a third year with the team and looks to reclaim the number-one plate in the 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450SX Championship. The Coloradan has been enjoying a successful tenure with the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team and the YZ450F. In addition to both premier class titles in 2022, he has amassed an impressive tally of wins thus far, with 14 in supercross and 14 moto victories.

Last season, Tomac came out swinging with the all-new YZ450F, winning the season opener at Anaheim 1. He went on to surpass supercross greats with his 51st 450SX victory at the Glendale Triple Crown, claiming the runner-up spot on the all-time win list in supercross’ premier class. Tomac also made history with his seventh Daytona Supercross victory, which not only topped last year’s record-setting victory that made him the winningest supercross rider at the Daytona International Speedway but also tied NASCAR legend Richard Petty’s record for the most wins at the iconic venue. He had a commanding lead in the 2023 450SX Championship but unfortunately, was sidelined for the rest of the year after rupturing his Achilles’ Tendon at the penultimate round in Denver.

2022 was a landmark year for the multi-time champion. He notched seven supercross wins and sealed the deal on his second 450SX title a weekend early in his home state of Colorado. Tomac tasted triumph again in the AMA Pro Motocross 450MX Championship, coming out on top in a thrilling down-to-the-wire title fight with 14 moto wins and five overall victories. He was also the captain of the victorious Team USA at the Motocross of Nations, took some more supercross wins overseas during the off-season, and was honored with his first ESPY Award in the Best Athlete, Men’s Action Sports Category.

In 2020, Tomac won his first Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450SX Championship and also enjoyed an impressive three-peat from 2017-2019 in the AMA Pro Motocross 450MX Championship. He has also been crowned Monster Energy Cup Champion twice, first in 2016 and then taking the ultimate prize of being a $1 Million Winner in 2018 for sweeping all three motors. In addition to his 450 titles, he was crowned the 250SX West Champion in 2012 and the Pro Motocross 250MX Champion in 2013.

At the end of the 2023 season, Webb kicked off his return to the team in front of the home crowd at the inaugural SMX World Championship Playoff 1. Justin Cooper #32

Stepping Justin Cooper returns for his seventh season with the team in 2024 and will make his full-time debut in the 450 classes of the SuperMotocross League - Monster Energy AMA Supercross, Pro Motocross, and the SuperMotocross World Championship.

Before making his pro debut in 2017 at Unadilla MX, Cooper added two AMA National Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Championships and nine major amateur motocross championships to his resume. He was also crowned the 2017 AMA Arenacross Lites East Champion and was awarded the Nicky Hayden AMA Motocross Horizon Award.

In his first season with the team, Cooper impressed with a third-overall finish in the 2018 250MX championship. From there, his forward momentum continued. In 2019, he finished second overall in the 250SX East Championship with six podiums and went on to take his first overall AMA Pro Motocross win in Florida, ending the year third in the 250MX Championship. The New Yorker’s efforts earned him a coveted seat on Team USA for the 2019 Motocross of Nations.

Cooper scored his first supercross win at the 2020 season opener in Anaheim, California, and ended the year second in the 250SX West Championship. After coming back from a pre-season injury, he made a late-season charge in the AMA Pro Motocross 250MX Championship, returning to the top of the podium at Thunder Valley to finish fifth in the standings.

In 2021, Cooper enjoyed a successful season aboard the YZ250F taking three wins en route to the Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX West crown. He then backed it up with a great outdoor season, coming just shy of the title in the end, but led the way in qualifying and holeshots and scored seven moto wins.

Although 2022 got off to a tough start with an injury that ended his supercross season before it started, Cooper finished the year on a high note. He scored a couple of moto wins in the latter half of the outdoor season and played an important role in Team USA’s Motocross of Nations victory at RedBud MX, where he also took the overall win in the MX2 class.

In 2023, Cooper got some seat time aboard the YZ450F in supercross, racing five rounds and finishing inside the top 10 with a best result of sixth on a very physically demanding Daytona Supercross track. He then switched gears back to the 250 team and made one last title run aboard the YZ250F in Pro Motocross. It was a roller-coaster outdoor season for the New Yorker, but Cooper rallied back, ending the year with four moto wins and 12 trips to the podium to secure the runner-up spot in the championship.
