2016 FJR1300A Head to Head

Serious sport-touring riders are tough critics, needing a machine that combines long-distance comfort with the performance to make each mile enjoyable. Year after year, the FJR1300A has been the bike that brings that balance into focus. Compare it against the Kawasaki Concours® 14 ABS to see why the 2016 FJR™ remains the best choice in the class.

New Six-Speed Transmission with A&S Clutch:
Like the Concours®, the 2016 FJR1300A features a six-speed transmission, but thanks to the FJR’s helical gears, engine noise is significantly reduced for even greater refinement. And Yamaha’s advanced Assist and Slipper clutch system not only reduces engine back-torque for smoother downshifts, it lightens lever effort for less fatigue, too—the Kawasaki® clutch is a basic slipper-only type.

Advanced Engine Control:
Both the FJR1300A and the Concours® feature potent, big-bore inline-four engines to deliver thrilling thrust with plenty of torque. However, the FJR features Yamaha’s Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T®), an advanced ride-by-wire system for impeccable response, featuring a choice of D-Mode throttle modes to suit riding conditions and rider preferences.

Electronic Riding Aids:
Thanks to YCC-T, the FJR1300A offers a range of features you can’t get with the Kawasaki®. Both machines do offer traction control, but the FJR also come standard with selectable D-Mode engine mapping as well as standard electronic cruise control.

Adjustable Suspension, Powerful Brakes:
Never forget the ‘sport’ in ‘sport-touring.” The FJR features a large-diameter, three-way adjustable 48mm front fork, just like a true supersport machine. The Kawasaki® only offers preload and rebound damping adjustments. The FJR1300A also boasts larger brake discs front and rear, for improved heat dissipation under aggressive use.

Details That Matter:
The FJR1300A features all-LED lighting, including potent LED headlights for exceptional visibility. The FJR also features adjustable lower leg wind protection, a tool-less seat height adjustment and adjustable handlebar positioning—features you won’t find on the Concours®.

Lightweight Chassis:
Despite carrying nearly a gallon more fuel, the FJR1300A is a whopping 55 pounds lighter than the Concours®—and you’ll feel that weight reduction every time you lean into a tight series of corners, and every time you twist the throttle.
