Starting from pole in Superbike race one, Hayes got the holeshot and led the first four laps, seemingly headed for his 52nd victory. But it wasn’t to be this time, as a fall on the next lap derailed his plans. In a flash Beaubier went by and led the remaining 10 laps to the flag – closely pursued by rivals Roger Hayden and Jake Lewis – with Hayes quickly recovering and scything his way back into sixth. Hayes’ steely focus was back in force for race two. Again starting from pole, he took his second holeshot of the day, and this time the R1 veteran didn’t put a wheel wrong, taking a commanding win over Beaubier – his eighth at the track over the last six years. “It’s always good to bounce back,” Hayes said after Yamaha’s 1-2 finish. Beaubier added, “I’m happy to get the win in race one, and also to leave here with a bigger points lead than when we arrived.”
