Pro Road Racing July 17-19, 2015 | Monterey, California Results

The final race of the weekend, Superbike/Superstock 1000 Race 2, saw Josh’s talented teammate Cameron Beaubier win what most people consider to the best race of the entire 2015 MotoAmerica season thus far. Josh was in the lead, early in the contest with Cameron back in fourth and determined to get to the front. Making a spirited charge aboard his #6 Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R1, Cameron passed Josh, and took the lead, which he traded back and forth more than a few times with veteran Superbike rider Roger Hayden. On the final turn of the final lap, Cameron made a deft move on Roger to take the checkered flag for the sixth time this season and move into a tie with Josh for the 2015 Championship, with two rounds and four races left to decide the title.

Sunday’s two Superbike/Superstock 1000 events were a tale of two distinctly different races, with the all-new Yamaha YZF-R1 dominating both classes in both contests. Sunday morning’s Superbike/Superstock 1000 race was held on a damp, but drying track where the proper tire choice made all the different. The ever-wise veteran, four-time and defending AMA Superbike Champion Josh Hayes made the right choice to start the race on slicks, which enabled him to lap the field all the way up to fourth place and also pull almost a 19-second gap to second place by the time he took the checkered flag. For Josh, who started from the pole aboard his Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R1, it was his eighth Superbike win of the season, and his 56th victory of his storied career.

In Superstock 1000, RoadRace Factory/Yamaha star Jake Gagne came back from an uncharacteristic 11th-place finish in Race 1 to solidly win Race 2. He also finished fourth overall in Race 2 and ahead of several non-Yamaha Superbike riders.

Tragically, at the start of Superbike/Superstock 1000 Race 2, an incident occurred, which involved five riders and caused the race to be red-flagged. As a result of the incident, two riders lost their lives, including Blumaq Yamaha rider Bernat Martinez, of Alberic, Valencia, Spain. Yamaha extends its deepest, most heartfelt condolences to the families, loved ones, friends, and fans of the two riders.
