AMA Pro Road Racing March 13 - 15, 2014 | Daytona Beach, FL Results

SuperBike... Aboard their YZF-R1s, Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammates Josh Hayes and Cameron Beaubier captured both AMA Pro SuperBike wins at Daytona International Speedway on Friday and Saturday, March 14-15. Hayes won the first of the two races by a narrow margin, but dropped out of the second race, handing the win opportunity to Beaubier. The rookie now holds the SuperBike points lead after the first of six scheduled 2014 events. And finally, Dustin Dominguez took a podium in Pro SuperSport on Friday aboard his HSBK Racing R6.

Hayes was all set to repeat the results on Saturday, leading early before a mechanical issue ended his race on lap 10. That left Beaubier, then running third behind Hayden and Martin Cardenas, to take up the challenge. The rookie did a masterful job, vaulting past both rivals to eventually lead 11 of the 15 laps and using the famed Daytona draft to prevail by a narrow 0.090 sec. margin over Hayden at the flag. “It was a little bit smoother race for me today and I didn’t make any big mistakes,” Beaubier noted. “It means everything to win this first SuperBike race of my career!” Tom Halverson, Yamaha road-racing team manager, added, “Congratulations to the entire Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team for two fantastic Daytona wins. Cameron joined a very elite group of riders who have won a SuperBike race in their first season. To do it in his first race weekend – and at Daytona – is even more special.”

In the first SuperBike race of the season on Friday, Hayes took the holeshot from the front row and built up an immediate gap – his trademark strategy. But as the race worked through 15 laps teammate Beaubier and rival Roger Hayden inched closer to Hayes, with Beaubier taking the lead briefly. After overshooting Turn 1, Beaubier regrouped and attacked again, but once again overshot the high-speed turn. This left Hayes and Hayden to battle to the finish, with Hayes and his R1 claiming the win by a narrow 0.025 sec. at the stripe. “If I can get up to speed quickly, that’s how I like to start each race,” Hayes said. After his first-ever SuperBike race, podium finisher Beaubier added, “This R1 SuperBike is a whole different animal. I love racing it, and I can’t wait to come back tomorrow!”
