The Nelson Report
Round 4 - 5/18/14
The Ranch
Anza, CA

Round 4 of the 2014 Yamaha Quad X Series took place at The Ranch, the first of two visits for this year’s series. The track was less technical than in years past and with the hot, windy conditions that have covered southern California as of late, the track crew struggled to keep enough water on the course to handle the dust. The pro turnout has been disappointing this year and this weekend was the worst. I was the only pro to show up so I jumped in with the pro-am class.

Moto 1: My #94 YFZ-R launched great out of the gate and pulled me to an easy holeshot. I rode clean fast laps out front while the top pro-ams stayed close for a couple laps but faded badly by the halfway point of the moto. The bike worked great and pulled me to a huge lead by moto’s end.

Moto 2: I pulled another holeshot and steadily pulled away from the pro-am leaders. The gap was much bigger in moto 2 as the track was rougher and more technical. I rode hard the whole race treating it like a training moto and eventually took an easy win.

Round 4 of the 2014 Yamaha Quad X series was disappointing. I rode well and the bike worked great but there was no competition to measure ourselves against. Hoping there will be some more pros on the line when we visit again in June.
