AMA Motocross June 28, 2014 | Blountvillle, TN Results

Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb scored a dramatic first career AMA Pro Motocross overall win aboard his YZ250F in Blountville, Tenn. on Saturday, June 28, 2014. The series sophomore nearly made it a perfect two-moto sweep, leading both motos before ultimately finishing 2-1 for the day. The win pulls the bLU cRU rider to within just eight points of teammate and championship leader Jeremy Martin, who finished 10-6 in the twin motos. Meanwhile Valli Motorsports/Yamaha’s Christophe Pourcel had a great day, leading both motos before finishing 3-4 to grab a respectable fourth overall.

In the first of the two 250 MX motos, a charging Pourcel made his way into the lead on the first of 17 laps to capitalize on his blistering qualifying pace, where he was more than a second faster than any other competitor. Webb also started well inside top three, but Martin unfortunately became held up by fallen riders in the first turn. After Webb took over second place on lap six, Pourcel and he ran 1-2 for six exciting laps. Pourcel eventually stalled in a rough section of the track, handing the lead to Webb and second place to rival Blake Baggett. Webb then led the final six laps until Baggett snuck ahead in the closing yards before the flag, leaving a frustrated Webb just 0.080 seconds shy of the win. Pourcel regrouped to finish a strong third, making it two YZ250Fs on the box.

Determined to finish what he started, in the second moto Webb was even more aggressive. He took over from holeshot winner Pourcel on lap one and raced to an eight-second margin of victory after a pursuing Baggett fell and became stuck in a rut, collecting and delaying Pourcel in the process. Celebrating his first career moto and overall win was truly a special occasion for the former Yamaha bLU cRU amateur rider, and the moto two results got even better with four YZ250Fs in the top 10 as Pourcel ultimately finished fourth, Martin sixth and Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Anthony Rodriguez ninth in only his fourth pro moto. “I’m on cloud nine!” Webb said afterwards. Yamaha motocross team manager Jim Perry added, “What another awesome day for the Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha team, with Cooper Webb taking his first national win.”
