Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha teammates Cooper Webb and Aaron Plessinger finished a spectacular first and third in the 250SX West division at the fifth round of the 2015 AMA Supercross season at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. on Saturday night, January 31. Aboard his YZ250F, Webb led seven of 15 laps to score his third win of the year, increasing his advantage to 18 points over rival Jessy Nelson with four rounds left to go in the West series. The night was equally exciting for fellow bLU cRU rider Plessinger, who raced inside the top four throughout the 15-lap final before scoring his first career Supercross podium. He now rides sixth in points.

Webb was fourth fastest in 250SX qualifying practice, with Plessinger seventh and River/Yamaha’s Alex Martin turning in the 11th fastest time. He then finished an extremely close second to Malcolm Stewart in his heat race, with Plessinger also transferring to the final by finishing fourth in his heat. And in some added excitement for Yamaha fans, privateers Trevor Reis and Ryan Breece stormed to a 1-2 finish in the LCQ on their YZ250Fs. When the gate dropped for the 250 final, Webb made a terrific start, grabbing the holeshot and looking to control the race from the front. But a gate malfunction left Zach Osborne stuck at the line, causing race officials to red flag the event after several laps and return the entire field to the starting line – much to Webb’s dismay.

On the restart, Nelson took the lead with Webb in second, Plessinger close behind in fourth, and Martin rounding out the top 10. Webb stalked Nelson for the first half of the race, taking the lead just past the midpoint and then gradually building up a gap of 3.65 seconds at the flag in a truly impressive performance. Plessinger rode an equally smart race, following third-place rider Osborne for six laps before getting by and racing to his well-deserved podium finish. Martin and Slaton Racing’s Cole Martinez filled out the top 10 with ninth and 10th place finishes, respectively. In all, YZ250Fs took four of the top 10 positions in the 250SX final. “I was definitely not too happy with that restart,” a relieved Webb said afterwards. “But luckily for me, when I’m mad I ride well!”
