AMA Motocross May 16, 2015 | Sacramento, Calif. Results

In the 250 class, the day decisively belonged to Martin and his new YZ250F. After qualifying third fastest among 40 starters, he led every lap of both motos, winning moto one by 15.4 seconds and the second moto by 21.2 seconds, both times over teammate Webb. So dominant was the YZ250F rider that he lapped at least half the field each time. For his part, Webb worked hard for his two second-place finishes, starting outside the top five in both motos, and then battling forward from there. The overall result puts the bLU cRU riders 1-2 in points and gives them much needed confidence as the 12-round outdoor season gets underway. As an added benefit of his overall win, Jeremy Martin’s YZ will carry the coveted red number plates at the Hangtown round near Sacramento, Calif. on May 31. And in other 250 action for Yamaha, fast qualifier Christophe Pourcel earned 7-5 moto finishes for fifth place overall – an amazing result in his first race for Valli Yamaha, after not having raced since 2012.

Yamaha bLU cRU riders Josh Grant and Jeremy Martin raced their YZs to a spectacular three out of four moto wins at the opening round of the 2014 AMA Motocross series at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, Calif. on Saturday, May 24. In the 250 class, Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin and teammate Cooper Webb raced their YZ250Fs to an incredible 1-2 sweep in the two long motos, with Martin scoring back-to-back wins and Webb finishing second both times.

Energy was high under sunny skies at the mountainous Glen Helen track, where the AMA nationals returned for the first time since 2009.

In the premier 450 class, Toyota/JGRMX/Yamaha’s Grant flew his YZ450F to his first moto win of the outdoor season, leading all 16 laps before scoring a narrow victory over rival Ken Roczen at the flag.

After qualifying sixth in the premier 450 class, Grant exploded off the line on his YZ450F, grabbing the first-moto holeshot and then streaking to a sizable lead before ultimately taking the checkers by a narrow 0.4 seconds over a charging Ken Roczen. Although normally a fast starter outdoors, Grant didn’t grab the launch he wanted in the second moto, getting to the first turn only in mid-pack. He then crashed on lap two and had to ride to the mechanics’ area to get his bike straightened out. Despite this misfortune, and a quick stall later in the race, Grant still finished 15th – good enough to salvage a top-five finish for the day. Also in the 450 class, Grant’s teammate Phil Nicoletti rode in second early in the first moto before finishing the day with a pair of 11th place finishes, which was good enough for 12th place overall. And finally, River Yamaha’s Ben Lamay went 20-12 in the twin motos to finish 15th overall. Yamaha motocross team manager Jim Perry said, “It was an outstanding day for the Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha team with their first 1-2 outdoor finish in the team’s history. I’m looking forward to a great season.”
