Wienen Motorsports Yamaha racer Chad Wienen claimed his fifth consecutive AMA Pro ATV Motocross overall win at Steel City Raceway in Delmont, Penn. on Saturday, July 6. The YFZ450R rider has virtually dominated this year's championship, claiming the overall win in all but two of the seven rounds completed so far. Now with three rounds left to go in the 2013 season, Wienen holds a 45-point lead over teammate Thomas Brown. Meanwhile, Brown also had a good weekend, finishing third overall for the sixth time this year after working hard to move through the pack in both motos. Then in Southern California on Sunday, Yamaha teammates Josh Row and Dustin Nelson finished third and fifth, respectively, in the fifth round of the 2013 Yamaha Quad-X series at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino.

Wienen started things off by posting the fastest qualifying time on his YFZ450R. But it was rival John Natalie who grabbed the holeshot in the first moto, followed by Joel Hetrick and Wienen. In a way, it was an ideal situation for Wienen, who was able to size up his two competitors before making a move for the lead. He got by Hetrick into second place on the fifth of 13 laps, took over the lead from Natalie just past the halfway point of the race, and then cruised to the checkers. In the meantime, teammate Brown played a fantastic game of catch-up during the moto, advancing from mid-pack into fifth place by lap three, and then battling his way up to third in the final two laps.

The second moto began similarly for Wienen, with the YFZ rider starting in third place. This time however, rival Joel Hetrick capitalized on his holeshot to forge an early lead on the field. Undeterred, Wienen advanced into second place by lap six and then went in pursuit of the leader – although he ultimately had to settle for second. Fortunately it was enough to give Wienen an amazing fifth consecutive overall. Teammate Brown likewise put in another solid ride. He completed the first lap in fifth place and moved up from there, advancing into third just before the halfway point. “I’m really pumped on the weekend,” Wienen said. “I was able to grab my sixth overall of the season and extend my lead in the championship points chase.” Brown added, “I’m happy with my third place overall finish but am really looking forward to moving my way up to the top of the box!”
