Is it just me, or does it seem like geese are getting smarter? Every year they seem to get more difficult to decoy. Blinds and camo need to be ever more effective, and decoy spreads keep getting bigger. But more decoys means more work getting them to and from the field.
Under the best conditions you can haul them out in the bed of a truck (I know one resourceful hunter who uses a dump truck). That requires that you have a truck, and the best of conditions. Not everyone owns a truck. Furthermore, a little rain can turn a cornfield into a swamp. Getting your rig stuck in the middle of a 200-acre cornfield can bring a hasty and disconcerting end to your hunt; and could end up costing you a pretty penny in towing and repairs. A simple solution is to dedicate a vehicle to hauling decoys and other hunting equipment.
But not just any vehicle will do. You want one that’s designed to haul a load, and to go where a conventional 4WD pick-up can’t. The solution is a Side-by-Side (SxS) like Yamaha’s Rhino. The bed will hold several hundred shells or silhouettes and still leave room for guns and all the other trappings we waterfowlers like to drag along. If you need more room simply attach a small trailer. You can even double dip by hauling your SxS on a small trailer, then attaching it to the SxS when you arrive at your goose field.  |
